American Tuna was formed in 2005 by fishing families with the mission of raising awareness and bringing sustainably sourced seafood that supports U.S. fishing communities to the market. Using traditional harvest and packing methods, we offer the highest quality, all-natural, canned albacore tuna products.

Our albacore tuna is caught one-by-one by pole & line and troll fishers – the most environmentally and socially responsible way to catch tuna. All the fishing boats are U.S. flagged, and we can trace every can of tuna back to the specific fishing vessel that caught it, ensuring complete traceability.

The albacore tuna is caught near the surface of the ocean using the sustainable "One-by-one" Pole & Line or Troll methods. These methods target smaller, younger fish that have accumulated lower levels of mercury than larger, older fish that tend to live in deeper water. This means our tuna is naturally lower in mercury, which we verify through independent laboratory testing.

We don't add any water, vegetable broth or other fillers to our products. Our tuna is hand filleted and hand-packed at artisanal canners in Oregon and Washington, then cooked just once in the can. American Tuna purchases our tuna from the MSC-certified sustainable North Pacific Pole & Line albacore fishery operating off the west coast of the United States – the first tuna fishery in the world to obtain MSC certification.

Our canned tuna offers a superior taste and texture compared to farmed alternatives, and we employ the most sustainable fishing method to ensure minimal impact on marine ecosystems and promote responsible fishing practices. Our tuna is dolphin-safe, meeting the stringent standards of the Earth Island Institute to protect marine life.
